Description

The d`Uccle chicken was developed in Uccle, Belgium hence the name d`Uccle. This breed was admitted into the American Poultry Standard of Perfection in 1914 for the Mille Fleur, 1965 for the Porcelain, and 1996 for the Self Blue.

The d`Uccle is a true breed bantam. This means that there is not a standard size version of this chicken. They have full beards and muffs along with feathered feet. Some people refer to them as booted bantams because of the feathers on their feet. The d`Uccle breed is not cold hardy and does better in a free-range situation. They can be confined and will do okay with it but prefer the ability to walk around the yard. This breed is also broody and will make a great mom for hatching eggs.

The d`Uccle is known for being an excellent bird at poultry shows. They have a docile disposition and tender personalities which makes them easy to handle. This breed is an all-around great chicken to have in the backyard as a pet or for taking to shows to get a 1st place prize.
