Description
The Buff Orpington Bantam is a miniature breed of the Buff Orpington standard size. John Burdett played a major role in the development of the Buff Orpington bantam. He began developing bantam sized Orpingtons in 1929 and they quickly became popular. The Orpington Bantam Club was developed in 1950. Since then this breed has done nothing but grow more popular over the years.
The Buff Orpington Bantam has pinkish colored legs and beaks. They have beautiful red combs, earlobes, and wattles. As chicks, they have all yellow down fur.
If you are looking for a chicken that will adapt easily to their environment then this is the chicken for you. They can handle confinement or free-range areas well. This bantam is also a very friendly bird that makes a great pet. Because they are so docile they tend to be bullied by other chicks. This breed is hardy and can handle cold winters. They are also broody chickens which make them excellent mothers.
